Sunday, May 21, 2017 View Comments Comments (0)
New to your role as workers' compensation coordinator?  Just need a refresher?  Workers' Compensation Services is excited to launch semi-annual workers' compensation training focused on the nuts and bolts of handling your claims at the agency level!

On July 18 and July 20, 2017 from 9:00AM to noon, we will provide Workers' Compensation 101 via live GoToTraining. If you are local to Richmond or want to attend in person, approximately 30 seats will be available to attend in our training room here on the 6th floor of the Monroe Building in downtown Richmond.

This training is geared toward those agency representatives who have fewer than 2 years of WC  experience, report a low volume of claims annually or simply feel like refreshing their knowledge of the workers' compensation basics.

In these training sessions you'll learn:
  • Tips for entering a new accident report
  • The importance of timely claim filing
  • Your role in investigating claims
  • Forms and information needed after filing a new claim
  • Tips for working with the MCI benefit coordinator
  • Coordination of VSDP and workers' compensation
  • Available technology resources

Registration is now available in the new COV Learning Center.  If you are unable to register through the link listed, contact your agency's Learning Center administrator.  For more information about the course, contact Pam Goetz at pam.goetz@dhrm.virginia.gov.  The deadline to register for this class is July 14, 2017.

New Injury Type Checklists Help to Complete an Investigation

Sunday, February 19, 2017 View Comments Comments (0)
[check*list (noun); plural (noun): checklists, a list of items required, things to be done, or points to be considered, used as a reminder

WCS/MCI is continuously evaluating ways to make our program work better for agencies and injured workers.  Making compensability decisions quicker and paying indemnity and medical bills as soon as possible is a key focus of the program.  The program has been successful in reducing these turnaround times, but there is always room for improvement.

To that end, WCS/MCI and the Agency Advisory Council thought that a variety of checklists aimed at arming you with the most common types of information the benefit coordinator will need in order to complete their investigation might be helpful.  Armed with this information, you may choose to start gathering and supplying the needed information as soon as you are made aware of the accident.  Knowing upfront, the kinds of information we will request, hopefully takes away some of the mystery surrounding the benefit coordinators' questions and investigation.

The checklist includes:
  • General Post Accident Checklist
  • Slip/Trip/Fall Checklist
  • Motor Vehicle Accident Checklist
  • Machinery/Equipment/Product Checklist
  • Chemical Exposure Checklist
  • Attacks/Assaults Checklist
  • Mold Checklist
